NSW Environmental Citizen Of The Year 2022 Alexis Bowen For ‘The Bin Chicken’ Project!
A Western Sydney community recycling project called The Bin Chicken has been named the 2022 NSW Environmental Citizen of the Year by the NSW Government on World Environment Day.
The initiative aims to reduce recyclable material entering landfill and inspire the community to use the NSW government’s Return and Earn container deposit scheme to refund and donate money to local sports clubs, daycare centres and a community pantry that contains food products to help those in need.
The new Bernardi’s Marketplace – Blayney Return and Earn machine launched 26 May 2022 and operates in the same way as Return and Earn collection points operate across NSW. Plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass bottles and liquid paperboard cartons eligible for the 10c refund can be returned through the machine, with milk, wine and spirit bottles not accepted.
Roselands has a new location for locals to return and earn with the opening of a new Return and Earn machine at Roselands Vicinity Shopping Centre.

The initiative with Return and Earn network providers TOMRA-Cleanaway allows people to recycle bottles and cans for money. It has raised over $100,000.
TOMRA Cleanaway celebrated news today that the business has secured an extension agreement with the NSW Government to continue the delivery of network operation for the state’s successful Return and Earn Container Deposit Scheme.
“Griffith residents are enthusiastic participants in Return and Earn, having returned more than 45 million containers for recycling through the two local return points since the scheme commenced,” a Return an Earn spokesperson said.
