Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme Proving a Winner in Hepburn!

The recently installed reverse vending machine in Creswick received a record 9500-plus containers in just one-week courtesy of 112 customers, the Hepburn Shire Council has reported.

It’s further indication of the success of Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) in reducing litter and supporting community fundraising, the council says.

CDS Vic is a Victorian Government initiative that provides a 10-cent refund for every eligible drink container returned across the state. Across the Hepburn Shire there are multiple sites that are now open and ready to accept eligible containers:

These machines are operated by TOMRA Cleanaway, the West Zone operator for CDS Vic. The CDS Vic West Zone includes 28 local government areas across Melbourne’s west, across to the regional west of Victoria.

People are encouraged to download the CDS Vic West Zone app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

About TOMRA Cleanaway and the CDS Vic West Zone

The West Zone operation has so far collected more than 55 million containers. This means more than $5.5 million has gone back into the pockets of Victorians.

All containers returned through the collection point network for CDS Vic pass through technology for audit and verification purposes, which achieve clean, source-separated commodities that support Victoria’s transition to a circular economy.

The Creswick Reverse Vending Machine is located at the Creswick Hub, located at 68 Albert Street, Creswick. This machine is a Standalone RVM, a compact version of our larger reverse vending machine which operates in the same easy way as their larger format counterpart, but it’s compact size means it can be placed in small-to-medium sized stores and still offer the same simple user experience.
