An outstanding recycling achievement by the Dimboola Lions Club
TOMRA Cleanaway is delighted to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of the Dimboola Lions Club to environmental sustainability. In recognition of their efforts, TOMRA Cleanaway’s Victorian GM Tony Catania presented members of the Dimboola Lions Club with a Milestone Certificate for achieving an impressive 1 million eligible drink containers processed through their refund point for Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, as part of the TOMRA Cleanaway West Zone network.
Since partnering with TOMRA Cleanaway, the Dimboola Lions Club has provided the community with an accessible and effective way to recycle eligible drink containers, reducing litter and promoting sustainable practices. This service would not be possible without the support of the Dimboola IGA owner Tim Crowhurst and the whole IGA Dimboola team, who are the local redemption partners in town where residents can redeem their refund vouchers for money off their grocery shop or cash.
Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme’s West Zone is delivered by TOMRA Cleanaway. The Scheme incentivises the return of eligible drink containers for a 10-cent refund. With the support of organisations like the Dimboola Lions Club and the Dimboola IGA, the scheme is helping to reduce waste, lower litter rates, and create lasting environmental benefits across Victoria.

Going above and beyond for the Dimboola community
The Lions Club have gone above and beyond, with the committee developing a grants program that gives back to the community and local businesses in Dimboola. The funds for these grants are made possible through donations and handling fees collected at the Dimboola Lions Club’s RVM since November 2023. Each 10-cent refund donated by members of the community directly contributed to the pool of funds available, highlighting the power of collective action to make a real difference locally.
The inaugural grants were awarded at the end of 2024, with over $12,000 being allocated to 5 local organisations who had applied to the Dimboola Lions Club committee.
The recipients of the inaugural community grants included:
- Gerang Gerung Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre received $657.03 for macropod food for the next 12 months.
- Dimboola Sporting Club received $5,200 for improving their recycling program with new infrastructure, including new bins, fencing, and a caged trailer to be used for recycling.
- The Sidney Nolan Studio received $1,000 for the renewal of their building facade.
- Dimboola RSL has been awarded $800 for a heavy duty stick vacuum cleaner, and
- The Dimboola Girl Guides received $4,400 to help replace the kitchen roof at the Arura Girl Guide Camp.
Local organisations are encouraged to contact the Dimboola Lions Club to complete the grant funds document so the committee can continue to allocate funds back into the community.
