The Return and Earn Donation partner program is operated by TOMRA Cleanaway in partnership with Return and Earn. There are over 400 donation partners listed on the Return and Earn app, enabling customers to donate via Tag and Drop at any Return and Earn depot or machine. With donation partners including schools, animal welfare, homelessness support, and environmental organisations, customers can support the causes that matter most to them with a few containers or a lot.
All donation partners are required to pass a strict review process to ensure they are legitimate.
How can donation partners and charity partnerships help drive volume?
- Improved sentiment – customers think more positively of you and your business because you’re enabling support of charities and community groups
- Provide an opportunity for brand awareness – local charities and community groups can promote their association with your depot and encourage supporters to drop off containers to donate, unlocking new customers and awareness
- Supporters of the charity including volunteers visit with their container collections – connecting directly with the donation partners means greater volume, Lions and Rotary clubs often collect very large volumes from events and venues and return them to a local depot
- Depots are the human face of Return and Earn – as the human face of the Return and Earn network depots provide an opportunity for people to feel good about supporting the community and donating to charity
- Companies/businesses can tick of the ESG goals – for businesses, donating drink containers to charities and community groups is an easy win for their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals
- Those who don’t need the refund themselves can save their containers for the greater good – for some, the 10 cent refund isn’t a motivator, creating an opportunity to support their community. An added bonus that all containers returned through Return and Earn are destined for high level recycling outcomes.
- Unlocks volume from events – many charity, community and sporting groups hold events throughout the year, by partnering with them on events you can unlock volume AND ensure your logo and location are promoted building brand awareness of your location and competitive advantages (particularly fast and efficient service)
- Support without impacting the budget– for many members of the community, cost of living is reducing their ability to support the charities and causes that mean the most to them. Using tag and drop and supporting charities through Return and Earn is an easy way for individuals to support the causes they care about without needing to put their hand in their pocket.
New Major Donation Partner: Guide Dogs is Driving Returns!
Every 6 months we launch a new major donation partner that is featured across the TOMRA Cleanaway’s Return and Earn network. For you, the major donation partner is an opportunity to encourage your community to donate some or all of their eligible containers to support a worthy cause. It shows your commitment to the community and positions your organisation as a strong supporter of the community.
Donation partners are an opportunity to drive volume for your depot and engage with new audiences. Recently, we launched our new major donation partner, Guide Dogs NSW. Guide Dogs does more than “just” provide trained dogs to assist those with blindness and low vision to navigate the world. They provide social connection with group meet ups, support with accessibility tools and technology and even support dogs for victims of crime in the court system. Customers have been enthusiastic to donate their refunds to such a worthy cause, which means more people are choosing Return and Earn more of their containers.
Little Wings State of Origin
Return and Earn donation partner Little Wings provides free ground and air transport for seriously ill children to access life saving medical treatment in the city.
Little Wings Major Donation Partnership in 2024 was one of our most successful campaigns to date with a groundswell of support from across the state for the essential services they provide.
Little Wings are currently working with depots across NSW and QLD on a “State of Origin” container donation campaign. They are pitting state against state in a competition to raise funds to assist regional and rural families. You can get involved by contacting Little Wings and encouraging your community to get involved and donate containers to Little Wings. Every 20 containers donated to Little Wings provides 1L of fuel for their planes.
We lost “Game 1” to QLD, 22,819 containers to 20,499. So we encourage you to get involved in Game 2 and help us to beat QLD in “Game 2”.
