Great news for the growing The Hills district! Recycling just got a whole lot easier, faster, and more convenient with the official opening of the Rouse Hill Return and Earn Depot. This new large-format return point is the very first depot in The Hills Shire, significantly increasing the capacity of the local Return and Earn network to serve the community’s enthusiastic recyclers.
The Hills’ Enthusiastic Recyclers Get an Upgrade
We know The Hills residents love to recycle! The Hills locals have already returned over 224 million eligible bottles, cans, and cartons since the scheme began. This new depot is designed to make it even simpler for the community to participate, especially for those with large amounts of containers.
High-Speed, High-Volume Convenience
The Rouse Hill depot is all about efficiency and convenience, particularly for those with bags full of containers. It features the latest self-service ‘tip and go’ technology, capable of processing up to 100 containers a minute. This high-speed option is perfect if you have 500 or more containers and there’s no need pre-sort.
More Ways to Return, More Ways to Get Paid
Beyond the highspeed “tip and go,” the depot offers multiple convenient services:
‘Tag and Drop’:
For ultimate ease, you can drop off your bagged containers and receive a digital payout once depot staff have counted them.
Return and Earn Machine:
If you have a smaller number of containers, a small format Return and Earn machine is also available.
Once your containers are counted, you have multiple ways to receive your 10-cent refund:
Voucher:
Print a voucher redeemable at Coles for cash or a discount on your shopping.
Digital Payout:
Opt for an e-voucher or direct payment to your bank or PayPal account using the Return and Earn app.
Supporting Local Causes
Did you know you can turn your refund into support for a good cause? You can easily donate your refund to one of over 400 donation partners listed on the Return and Earn app. Statewide, this community generosity has resulted in over $82 million raised for charities and non-profits since 2017.
A Community Celebration Marks the Opening
The official opening of the Rouse Hill Return and Earn Depot was a true community celebration, highlighting the strong partnership and shared commitment behind the scheme’s success. The ribbon-cutting ceremony saw representatives from the Scheme partners, TOMRA Cleanaway and Exchange for Change, joined by TOMRA Collection Australia, demonstrating the industry-wide effort to expand recycling capacity. Local government support was prominent, with the attendance of Dr Michelle Byrne, Mayor of The Hills Shire, who praised the new facility’s benefit to residents. Riverstone MP Warren Kirby, represented the Minister for Environment, The Hon. Penny Sharpe and reiterated the NSW Government’s commitment to making recycling easy and accessible, celebrating the depot as a major milestone for the rapidly growing Hills district.
