Eastern Suburbs Return and Earn automated depot launches in Matraville
Monday 22 March TOMRA Cleanaway was proud to be able to celebrate the continued growth of the NSW network return points for Return and Earn with the official opening of our newest bulk container return location – Eastern Suburbs Return and Earn.
Cr Danny Said, Mayor of Randwick City Council joined Tracy Mackey, CEO of the NSW Environment Protection Authority, David Singh, MD of ReGroup and Return and Earn scheme partners to formally launch the new Eastern Suburbs Return and Earn automated depot, the newest location in the Randwick council area for local residents to Return and Earn.
James Dorney, CEO of TOMRA Cleanaway, welcomed the additional convenience and access the new return point has brought to the area.
“Randwick City Council residents are enthusiastic recyclers, having already returned more than 35.9 million containers since Return and Earn launched in December 2017.
“The opening of the Eastern Suburbs Return and Earn automated depot is a real win for the local community, bringing the total number of return points in the Randwick LGA to 11, giving residents greater access and convenience,” Mr Dorney said.
Located at Unit 20/61-67 Beauchamp Road, Matraville, the automated depot is a staffed specialist return and recycling centre which accepts any volume of containers, big or small.
“By using this return point, in combination with your household recycling collection, we can all do our bit to reduce the millions of containers that are littered in the NSW environment each year while also being rewarded for our efforts,” said Mr Dorney.
Tracy Mackey, CEO of the NSW Environment Protection Authority said this new return point is one of more than 620 return points available across the State and congratulated local residents for being such strong contributors to the more than 5 billion containers returned through the scheme in just over 3 years.
“The growth of Return and Earn has been phenomenal, delivering strong environmental, community and economic benefits to NSW.
“More than $18.2 million has been raised through the scheme so far for charities and community groups via donations and revenue state-wide. In the Randwick region, local charities and schools are increasingly using the scheme to raise much-needed funds,” Ms Mackey said.
Eastern Suburbs Return and Earn automated depot also offers a new container collection service, ReCollect.
“ReCollect is a free app that allows users to book a pick-up of containers from their home or business so that they can continue to recycle right and get paid for saving the planet without even leaving their home,” said David Singh, CEO of ReGroup.
“It’s all about making it as easy as possible to ensure every eligible container is recycled through Return and Earn, and that refund amounts go back into the community. You can set up a virtual bottle drive for your favourite charity or community group, or keep the refund for yourself,” he added.
The new automated return point is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
