Recycling will be even easier for residents in the Camden Haven with the NSW Government opening a new Return and Earn reverse vending machine in Kew.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said the new return point, located at the Kew Country Club would be operated between 8 am and 6 pm daily.
“Local residents are enthusiastic recyclers, having returned more than 58 million containers since Return and Earn launched in December 2017,” Mrs Williams said.
“The opening of the Kew Country Club RVM brings the total number of return points in the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area to eight which is a real win for our local community – making recycling easier with even greater access and convenience.”
Environment Minister Matt Kean said the new return point is the latest addition to the Return and Earn arsenal, with more than 4.5 billion containers returned in just over 2.5 years via the more than 600 return facilities across the State.
“The growth of participation in Return and Earn has been phenomenal, delivering strong environmental and economic benefits for our community’s right across NSW,” Mr Kean said.
“By getting involved and using this return point, in combination with your household recycling collection, we can all do our bit to reduce the millions of containers that are littered in the NSW environment each year while also being rewarded for our efforts.”
More than $15.5 million has been returned through the scheme so far for charities and community groups via donations and fees from hosting return points.
In the Port Macquarie-Hastings area, local charities and schools are increasingly using the scheme to raise much-needed funds including Lake Cathie Rural Fire Brigade, Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse, Camden Haven High School and Friends of Mrs York’s Garden Inc,” he added.
Consumers receive a 10c refund for each eligible bottle, can or carton they return or can choose to donate their refund to one of the onscreen charity partners available on the machine, including current local donation partner ‘Lost Plot Community Garden’.
Users of the Kew machine will have the option to print a voucher for the refund amount, redeemable for cash at Woolworths, or they can opt for an e-voucher or payment into their PayPal account by downloading the MyTOMRA app before visiting.
