New App Makes Recycling Bottles and Cans Easy

A new app is making it easier for NSW residents to help the environment and support their favourite charity through container recycling.

The new Return and Earn app has launched with a range of features to help community groups and charities raise much-needed funds while also making it easier for Return and Earn participants to find their nearest return point and manage their refunds.

Key features of the Return and Earn app include:

  • payment of your refund via digital voucher or direct to your bank account or Paypal account when using a Return and Earn machine
  • option to donate some or all of your refund to one of 140+ charities listed on the app when using a Return and Earn machine
  • all 620+ return points across NSW featured on interactive map including directions, opening hours and live status of every Return and Earn machine
  • track your recycling history and earn badges

These last four years of the scheme have really highlighted the potential for Return and Earn to become a mainstay of community fundraising activities. In developing this app, we wanted to make it even easier for charities to realise the fundraising benefits and easier for our customers to support important causes in the community.

New features will be added to the app in the coming months including a container eligibility checker tool and digital payment options for all return points including automated depots and over-the-counter locations.

The Return and Earn app was developed by Return and Earn technology partner TOMRA in partnership with TOMRA Cleanaway and Exchange for Change. The new app replaces the myTOMRA app with all return history transferred to the new app once downloaded.
