VICTORIA’S SOUTH-WEST community groups and sporting clubs can now collect their drink bottles and cans using a free trailer to trade them in for cash!

TOMRA Cleanaway, which runs Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, CDS Vic in the West Zone, has launched the new community recycling trailer in partnership with Warrnambool’s are-able.

are-able operates Warrnambool’s CDS Vic Depot at its Albert Street premises, located at 11 Albert Street, Warrnambool VIC 3280.

Community groups, charities, sports groups and event hosts can now book the free trailer which will be brought to events before being processed at are-able’s bulk depot for refunds. TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for the CDS Vic West Zone, is supporting Depot’s across their zone with the Community Recycling Trailers. Like every container that goes through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, 10 cents will be paid for every container that is recycled through are-able’s depot.

West Zone participation is strong

The west zone has collected more than 497 million containers across almost 200 refund collection points since its launch in November 2023, putting $49 million back into the community.

Premier Speedway, Warrnambool City Council, Warrnambool Racing Club and Rotary Club of Warrnambool are among the organisations that are supporting drink container collections through the new trailer.
TOMRA Cleanaway chief executive officer James Dorney said he was thrilled to offer the new resource to community groups and event organisers.

“Our free trailers not only help increase container refunds but also support local initiatives to reduce waste and promote recycling. It’s a win-win for everyone,” he said.

are-able site manager Jason Esam said by supporting the container deposit scheme, the community helped the environment and provided meaningful, ongoing work for are-able participants.

The depot has helped 11,618 customers contribute to a cleaner environment while earning the 10-cent reward. The team includes nine support employees and eight support workers.

Mr Esam said the collaboration between local community groups was a true success story.

“Working with Rotary and the Speedway is a great opportunity for are-able as it’s a feel-good community story that highlights the power of working together,” he said.
