This month, the Team from TOMRA Cleanaway joined with Return and Earn scheme partners to officially open the new Silverwater Return and Earn Depot. Serving the community of Parramatta City Council and surrounds, the depot is a new milestone in the TOMRA Cleanaway network for Return and Earn!
Bulk container returns in Parramatta
As Network Operator for Return and Earn, we’re proud to partner with sustainable waste management organisation Clean Vibes on their second Return and Earn Depot. The new Silverwater Return and Earn Depot is located on Silverwater Road, making it a convenient location for businesses and residents of the City of Parramatta to return their eligible containers. The Silverwater Return and Earn Depot is the second depot in the TOMRA Cleanaway network to be operated in partnership with Clean Vibes, sustainable events waste and cleaning company.
Community support for Return and Earn in Parramatta
The event saw over 40 members of the local community join together including Member for Parramatta Donna Davis MP, Clean Vibes Managing Director Andrew Macarthur, Exchange for Change CEO Danielle Smalley, TOMRA Cleanaway CEO James Dorney, KARI COO Jake Wilson, as well as the pivotal teams from Return and Earn partners Exchange for Change, TOMRA Cleanaway, NSW EPA and representatives from local businesses sporting clubs and charities.
Supporting Aboriginal Communities
The event celebrated the continuation of Clean Vibes partnership to support leading Aboriginal not-for-profit KARI Foundation. KARI COO Jake Wilson spoke of the impact of the partnership including providing essential school packs to members of the Aboriginal community.
Andrew Macarthur, MD of Clean Vibes explained, “We’re very proud to launch our second Return and Earn depot in NSW and continue our partnership with KARI Foundation to provide local employment opportunities at our depots.
A highlight of the event was the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Uncle Les from KARI. Uncle Les connected with each individual, speaking of the healing power of the smoke and its importance in local Aboriginal culture.
More solutions for City of Parramatta businesses and residents
TOMRA Cleanaway CEO, James Dorney said, “The opening of Silverwater Return and Earn depot is a fantastic addition for our community. This depot is the 13th return point in the City of Parramatta which means it’s never been easier to recycle your bottles and cans for the 10c refund, and help the environment while making some extra change.
“City of Parramatta residents are already enthusiastic recyclers, having returned more than 100 million bottles and cans through local return points since the scheme began.”
The facility is designed to quickly process high volumes of drink containers which makes it ideal for individuals or businesses returning 500 containers or more at a time. The depot also offers a free container collection service for local businesses, community groups and residents located in the City of Parramatta area.
Return and Earn’s state-wide success
More than 11.8 billion drink containers have been returned for recycling through Return and Earn’s network of over 630 return points across NSW since the scheme launched in 2017, resulting in over $1 billion in container refunds back to the community.
Silverwater Return and Earn Depot
Silverwater Return and Earn depot is located at 196 Silverwater Road, Silverwater. Entry is via the rear of the property on Silver Street. Opening hours are 7:30am to 4:30 pm Monday to Saturday and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sundays.
